The word `Muslim' means one who submits to the will of God, regardless of their race, nationality or ethnic background. Becoming a Muslim is a simple and easy process that requires no pre-requisites. One may convert alone in privacy, or he may do so in the presence of others.

Nevertheless, those who adopt Islam as their religion are advised to register themselves as Muslims with the concerned official agency, as this procedure may facilitate for them many matters, including marriage, and the possibility of performing Hajj (Pilgrimage) and Umrah.
If anyone has a real desire to be a Muslim and has full conviction and strong belief that Islam is the true religion of God, then, all one needs to do is pronounce the `Shahaada', the testimony of faith, without further delay. The `Shahaada' is the first and most important of the five pillars of Islam.

With the pronunciation of this testimony, or `Shahaada', with sincere belief and conviction, one enters the fold of Islam.
Upon entering the fold of Islam purely for the Pleasure of God, all of one's previous sins are forgiven, and one starts a new life of piety and righteousness.

The Prophet said to a person who had placed the condition upon the Prophet in accepting Islam that God would forgive his sins:
`Do you not know that accepting Islam destroys all sins which come before it?' (Saheeh Muslim)
When one accepts Islam, they in essence repent from the ways and beliefs of their previous life. One need not be overburdened by sins committed before their acceptance, but if the sin involved usurping a right of another human, such as stealing, then they should strive their utmost to return what was wrongly taken. The person's record is clean, and it is as if he was just born from his mother's womb. One should try as much as possible to keep his records clean and strive to do as many good deeds as possible.

As for changing one's name, it is not a necessary factor in accepting Islam, although many people choose to use Muslim names, so taking pride in their new identity. If one's name contains some aspect of disbelief, such as one having a name which meant `the son of God', then changing it becomes obligatory. Another reason a person should change their name is when it is one which is discouraged; such as if one had a name that meant `war' or something similar.[1] One ought to never change the name of one's father, which usually follows one's personal name, such as the `last' or `family' name, even if it be a disliked or forbidden name, in order not to blur the lines of familial lineage.

The Holy Quran and Hadeeth both stress the importance of following Islam. God states:
`The Only Religion in the sight of God is Islam.`(Quran 3:19)
In another verse of the Holy Quran, God states:
`If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter, he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (their selves in the Hellfire).'(Quran 3:85)

Mohammad, the Prophet of God, may God praise him, said:
`Islam is built upon five (pillars): Testifying that there is no God (none truly to be worshipped) but God, and that Mohammad is the messenger of God, performing the Salah (prayer), paying the Zakah (Compulsory Charity), undertaking the Sawm (fasting) of the month of Ramadan, and performing Hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca).' (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

In another saying, Mohammad, the Prophet of God, said:
`Whoever testifies that there in none worthy of being worshipped but God, Who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, and that Eesa (Jesus) is the Slave of God, His Messenger, and His word[2] which He bestowed in Maryam (Mary) and a spirit created from Him; and that Paradise is true, and that the Hellfire is true, God will eventually admit him into Paradise, according to his deeds.' (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

The Prophet of God, may God praise him, also reported
`Indeed God has forbidden to reside eternally in Hell the person who says: `I testify that none has the right to worship except Allah (God),' seeking thereby the Face of God.' (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

The Declaration of the Shahaada
The Shahaada can be declared by saying the following statement:
`Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasool-ullah.'
The translation of which is:
`I testify that none has the right to worship except Allah (God), and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God.'
The first part of the 'Shahaada' (Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allah) consists of the most important truth that God revealed to mankind: that there is nothing divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Almighty God.

God states in the Holy Quran:
`We did not send the Messenger before you without revealing to him: 'none has the right to be worshipped except I, therefore worship Me.''(Quran 21:25)
This conveys that all forms of worship, whether it be praying, fasting, invoking, seeking refuge in, and offering an animal as sacrifice, must be directed to God and to God alone. Directing any form of worship to other than God (whether it be an angel, a messenger, Jesus, Muhammad, a saint, an idol, the sun, the moon, a tree) is seen as a contradiction to the fundamental message of Islam, and it is an unforgivable sin unless it is repented from before one dies. All forms of worship must be directed to God only.

Worship means the performance of deeds and sayings that please God, things which He commanded or encouraged to be performed, either by direct textual proof or by analogy. Thus, worship is not restricted to the implementation of the five pillars of Islam, but also includes every aspect of life. Providing food for one's family, and saying something pleasant to cheer a person up are also considered acts of worship, if such is done with the intention of pleasing God. This means that, to be accepted, all acts of worship must be carried out sincerely for the Sake of God alone.

The second part of the Shahaada (wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasool-ullah) means that Prophet Mohammad, may God praise him, is the servant and chosen messenger of God. This implies that one obeys and follows the commands of the Prophet. One must believe in what he has said, practice his teachings and avoid what he has forbidden. One must therefore worship God only according to his teaching alone, for all the teachings of the Prophet were in fact revelations and inspirations conveyed to him by God.

One must try to mold their lives and character and emulate the Prophet, as he was a living example for humans to follow. God says:

`And indeed you are upon a high standard of moral character.'(Quran 68:4)
God also said:
`And in deed you have a good and upright example in the Messenger of God, for those who hope in the meeting of God and the Hereafter, and mentions God much.'(Quran 33:21)
He was sent in order to practically implement the Quran, in his saying, deeds, legislation as well as all other facets of life. Aishah, the wife of the Prophet, when asked about the character of the Prophet, replied:
`His character was that of the Quran.' (As-Suyooti)
To truly adhere to the second part of the Shahaadah is to follow his example in all walks of life.

God says:
`Say (O Muhammad to mankind): 'If you (really) love God, then follow me.''(Quran 3:31)
It also means that Muhammad is the Final Prophet and Messenger of God, and that no (true) Prophet can come after him.

`Muhammad is not the father of any man among you but he is the Messenger of God and the last (end) of the Prophets and God is Ever All-Aware of everything.'(Quran 33:40)
All who claim to be prophets or receive revelation after Muhammad, may God praise him, are imposters, and to acknowledge them would be tantamount to disbelief.

How to Convert to Islam

If you believe in the teachings of Islam, it is recommended to make a formal declaration of faith. After careful study and prayer, if you find that you want to embrace the faith, here's how.
Here's How:

1. For a Muslim, every action begins with your intention. Quietly, to yourself, make the intention to embrace Islam as your faith.

2. Say the following words with clarity of intention, firm faith and belief:

3. Say: "Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill Allah." (I bear witness that there is no diety but Allah.)

4. Say: "Wa ash-hadu ana Muhammad ar-rasullallah." (And I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.)

5. Take a shower, symbolically cleansing yourself of your past life.6. Learn how to pray and practice Islam in your daily life.7. Continue to learn, study, and grow in your new faith.

Tips:
1. Before embracing Islam, be sure to spend time studying the faith, reading books, and learning from other Muslims.

2. Your conversion should be based on knowledge, certainty, acceptance, submission, truthfulness, and sincerity.

3. It is not required to have Muslim witnesses to your conversion, but many prefer to have such support.

4. If you wish to go for Hajj (pilgrimage), a "certificate of Islam" may be required. Contact your local Islamic center to obtain one.

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera,Apa khabar pelawat dan sahabat blogers di tanah air. Saya baru selesai melakukan muhasabah panjang di Hijir Ismail, Kaabah. Perkara yang saya fikirkan adalah nasib masa depan negara dalam menghadapi kemelut kepimpinan, tindakan Tun Mahathir dan silent protest dalam UMNO.Berdasarkan perbincangan saya dengan Tun Mahathir, beliau akan terus meluahkan perasaan bimbangnya terhadap masa depan UMNO dan BN jika ia terus dipimpin oleh Pak Lah.

Dalam pertemuan saya dengan beliau juga, Tun telah hilang keyakinan terhadap kewibawaan Pak Lah. Sebagai bekas Perdana Menteri yang melantik Pak Lah, Tun berpendapat adalah tanggungjawab dan kewajipan beliau untuk kembali membetulkan kepimpinan UMNO hari ini. Bagi pemimpin UMNO, seperti saya dan rakan Ketua Bahagian, yang telah dilatih untuk hormat pemimpin, untuk meminta Pak Lah meletak jawatan secara terbuka adalah perbuatan terakhir yang terpaksa dilakukan. Selalunya kami tunjukkan secara kiasan atau tidak langsung dengan harapan hasrat itu difahami. Adalah tidak benar untuk mengatakan pemimpin UMNO tidak faham dengan mood orang ramai, lebih-lebih lagi berdasarkan isyarat jelas keputusan Pilihan Raya Umum ke 12.

Ini terbukti bila ramai pemimpin UMNO telah mula bersuara secara terbuka mahu pun hadir dalam program Tun Dr. Mahathir.Saya amat bimbang dengan situasi ini. Memikirkan keadaan masa depan agama dan negara mengatasi segalanya, saya memohon petunjuk Allah dan melakukan muhasabah diri di hadapan Kaabah .

Sebagai pemimpin kerdil, secara peribadi saya berpendapat, Perubahan KepimpinanPertamanya, YAB Datuk Seri Abdullah mesti berani menerima kenyataan dan membuat rancangan keluar (exit plan) atau persaraan yang melibatkan peralihan kepimpinan parti dan negara kepada Timbalannya, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak.UMNO masih menghormati Pak Lah. Namun rakyat dan ahli UMNO ada pandangan sendiri yang telah diterjemahkan dalam pilihan raya serta perjumpaan-perjumpaan bersama akar umbi UMNO.Justeru cara terbaik ialah Pak Lah dan Datuk Seri Najib dapat mengemukakan satu rancangan peralihan kuasa yang licin dan dalam suasana mesra.

Peralihan ini boleh dilakukan dalam waktu terdekat atau jangka masa yang lebih panjang. Namun ia tidak seharus terlalu lama yang boleh menjejaskan pentadbiran negara mahu pun persiapan parti menjelang pilihan raya umum akan datang.Jika ini dapat dilakukan secara tertib, saya percaya rakyat akan kembali menghormati Pak Lah sebagai pemimpin yang bertanggungjawab kepada agama, bangsa dan negara.Pembaharuan Dalam KerajaanKeduanya, peralihan ini perlu diikuti oleh tindakan kerajaan untuk melakukan pembaharuan (reforms) dalam struktur pentadbiran bagi tujuan mengurangkan birokrasi.

Usaha juga perlu dilakukan untuk meningkatkan produktiviti, mewujudkan peluang perniagaan dalam bidang perkhidmatan mellaui usaha memperbanyakan program outsourcing dalam jabatan.Program penswastaan juga perlu dinilai semula bagi mencari satu kaedah baru yang lebih baik agar ia menjadi satu bentuk kerjasama pintar (smart partnership) antara swasta dan kerajaan.Polisi ekonomi juga perlu dinilai semula. Semangat Dasar Ekonomi Baru perlu diterapkan dalam bentuk baru. Ini kerana dasar atau polisi hari ini sudah tidak diyakini oleh sebahagian orang Melayu.

Manakala bukan Melayu pula merasa terpinggir waima kuasa ekonomi masih dalam tangan mereka.Sudah tiba masanya dikumpulkan kumpulan cerdik pandai dan intelektual kita bagi merumus satu formula dan pendekatan yang lebih menyeluruh.

Insyallah ini akan mengembalikan keyakinan rakyat kepada kerajaan.Selain pentadbiran dan ekonomi, isu Pendidikan juga memerlukan satu pembaharuan. Saya fikir sudah tiba masanya kita melihat semula peranan sekolah vernakular, termasuk sekolah agama rakyat. Ini kerana semua sekolah ini telah lama wujud dan turut menyumbang kepada pembangunan negara.

Kerajaan perlu mengambil tindakan pro aktif dalam hal ini kerana rakyat sedang memerhati tindakan kita.Faktor keempat yang perlu dilihat ialah hubungan agama Islam dengan agama lain perlu dilihat dengan lebih objektif. Kebebasan beragama yang dibenarkan dalam Perlembagaan perlu diterjemahkan dengan lebih jelas supaya ia tidak merugikan orang Islam. Kerajaan perlu mengambil penyelesaian tegas dalam hal ini. Sempadan yang jelas perlu digaris supaya semua penganut pelbagai agama di Malaysia memahami apa yang boleh dan apa yang tidak boleh dan faham jika ada tindakan yang terpaksa diambil pada masa akan datang.Perubahan Dalam PartiSelain kerajaan, UMNO juga perlu melakukan pembaharuan.

Pemusatan kuasa Presiden dan sistem kuota perlu dilihat semula. Ahli perlu diberi kebebasan dalam memilih pemimpin tanpa sekatan kuota atau dengan jumlah kuota yang minima.Pemimpin UMNO perlu berani menghadapi cabaran dalam parti jika mahu dihormati oleh rakyat.Bagi mengelakan kekangan dan halangan, keahlian UMNO dan pembayaran yuran juga perlu dilakukan secara terus atau melalui internet (online).Selain itu pemimpin UMNO perlu adakan kumpulan pemikir yang meliputi semua peringkat, yang memahami masalah dan mencari penyelesaian. Dengar dan analisa pandangan akar umbi dari pemotong rumput sehinggalah ke CEO syarikat gergasi.Keputusan hendaklah dibuat berlandaskan fakta dan untung rugi kepada orang Melayu untuk jangka panjang mahu pun pendek.

Banyak lagi pembaharuan mesti diambil oleh UMNO mengikut keperluan semasa. UMNO tiada pilihan lain kecuali berani berubah mengikut kehendak orang Melayu dan rakyat Malaysia.Sahabat-sahabat semua,Pada 2003 saya turut berada di sini, di Hijir Ismail inilah, saya berdoa kepada Allah s.w.t. Ketika yang sama di dalam negara berlakunya satu peristiwa penting – Istiadat peralihan pucuk pimpinan negara dari Tun Mahathir Mohamad kepada Datuk Seri Abdullah.

Saya dicemuh oleh beberapa pihak ketika itu kerana tidak hadir di Istana Negara untuk menyaksikan detik bersejarah tersebut.Namun keyakinan saya pada janji Rasulullah bahawa barang siapa yang berdoa dengan ikhlas di Hijir Ismail ini, doanya akan dimakbulkan Allah s.w.t.Saya memilih berada di sini dari Istana kerana cintakan negara dan pemimpin, Hari ini saya di sini lagi dengan keyakinan yang sama memohon doa, bermunajat kepada Allah, moga Allah selamatkan negara kita dari pemimpin yang tidak bertanggungjawab.

Saya tidak merelakan negara ini dipimpin oleh orang yang tidak bermaruah, yang sanggup bersengkokol dengan musuh hanya untuk berkuasa.Saya masih terus di sini bermunanjat, semoga apa yang saya perkatakan ini membawa kebaikan kepada semua rakyat Malaysia. Saya tidak jemu mahu pun putus asa untuk melakukannya kerana keyakinan saya pada janji Rasulullah s.a.w tidak pernah padam sampai akhir hayat.

Wajarkah projek babi RM100j? - Surat 2

TERESA Kok, Exco negeri Selangor dengan bangganya memaklumkan bahawa dalam mesyuarat Exco Rabu lalu (2 April), kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Selangor (DAP, PKR dan Pas) telah meluluskan projek penternakan babi bernilai RM100 juta di Sepang.

Katanya, biarlah projek ini menjadi contoh kepada negeri-negeri lain. Ini bermakna akan ada projek yang sama di lain-lain negeri secara besar-besaran juga. Ada kemungkinan perancangan ini menuju ke arah menjadikan Malaysia pengeluar dan pengeksport babi terbesar di dunia.
Inilah ‘hadiah’ pertama untuk pengundi-pengundi PR Selangor. Apa reaksi Pas? Saya percaya jika kelulusan ini dibuat oleh kerajaan BN, sudah tentu Pas tidak akan bertangguh untuk menghentam habis-habisan dan membuat road tour ke seluruh Malaysia mencanangkan hal ini dalam setiap ceramah kepada rakyat.

Ini sudah tentu akan menjadi senjata ampuh kepada Pas untuk memenangi hati orang Melayu dan orang Islam. Sebagai sebahagian dari anggota pemerintah negeri Selangor, apakah Pas sudah hilang prinsip bila berhadapan dengan DAP yang mempunyai suara terbanyak di Dewan Undangan Negeri. Masihkah releven pakatan yang dipersetujui oleh Pas yang terang-terangan telah melanggar prinsip negara Islam yang diperjuangkan serta dilaung-laungkan Pas selama ini.
Ini baru satu kes di mana DAP sudah mula menunjukkan taringnya kepada orang Melayu dan Islam. Mereka sudah mula menggunakan kuasa yang selama ini sangat mereka mimpikan bagi memenuhi kehendak pengundi-pengundi Cina.

Di Pulau Pinang, babi boleh diternak di kawasan perumahan seperti di Seberang Perai Selatan. Pencemaran bau dan lalat yang banyak telah lama mengganggu keselesaan penduduk sekitarnya bukanlah satu-satunya tempat di mana babi diternak secara berleluasa di Pulau Pinang.

Kini rakyat negeri Selangor kena bersedia untuk menghadapi masalah yang sama dan mungkin lebih teruk lagi termasuk penggunaan baja dari najis babi di kebun-kebun sayur di Selangor sebagai sebahagian pengeluar sayur terbesar di Malaysia. Jadi PKR dan Pas tidak payah bercerita fasal menunaikan janji mereka untuk menutup kilang arak dan pusat-pusat hiburan dan perjudian di Selangor kerana ini mustahil dilaksanakan.
Tahniah kepada MB Selangor. Tahniah juga kepada pengundi-pengundi Melayu dan Islam yang telah memberi mandat kepada PR untuk memerintah negeri Selangor, Perak dan Pulau Pinang.

Saya ingin merakamkan terima kasih tidak terhingga kepada portal MyKMU.net kerana menjemput saya dalam forum "UMNO Pasca PRU 12: Satu Penilaian" pada 1 April 2008 lepas. Penghargaan peribadi saya juga kepada seluruh warga kerja MyKMU.net kerana bertungkus lumus menjayakan program yang dibuat secara sukarela ini.

Sumbangan dan pengorbanan semua tidak ternilai harganya untuk menentukan Perjuangan Yang Belum Selesai, Demi Islam, Untuk Negara dan Keranamu Malaysia.Saya berharap MyKMU.net akan meneruskan program seperti ini dimasa akan datang.
